I'm looking to make a rig for my S&W Performance Center Schofields and need some ideas. Anyone have pics of holsters they have made for Schofileds? Not sure if I want to go slim Jim or loop style.

Deuce, knowing you are a highly competitive shooter my question is what do you want most in this Rig, speed or perhaps something else?  Also, are you wanting to make one for yourself or looking to have something special made for you?  If making it yourself, what level of leather working experience do you have?

Guys Deuce is an exceptionally talented SASS competitor, for those who may no know him.  He should fit right in with our own Red Cent.

Camano Ridge

Here is a set that I made for a CAS shooter for his Schofields. The holsters are a civilianized version based on the experimental cavalry holster submitted by Capt. James Ropes of the 8th Cavalry, refered to as the Ropes holster.

Red Cent

In my best days I could not beat the Deuce. I wish I had learned of cowboy action shooting before I was 59.

Deuce, the first thing that comes to mind is "3:10 to Yuma". Do you want to go period or competition? I seem to remember seeing a pair of Schofields in a pair of scanty period holsters in Packin' Iron.

Folks, a guy named Doc Noper and Deuce are best buddies. And Doc is a notable shooter himself. This can be documented by a recent notable win. Doc is also a notable leather worker.

Thanks RC. Looking to go authentic on this rig .

St. George

Then look at a copy of Rattenbury's 'Packing Iron' and I'm sure you'll find something.

During the era, holsters weren't wet-fitted - Mother Nature did that - so what you'll see for Colt Single Action Armys would also fit a Smith & Wesson Schofield.

Good Luck!

St George is correct.
I worked up a holster pattern for my S&W's.
I did wet form an original #3 model 1 Russian revolver to the holster because it has such a long ejector rod housing on the bottom of the barrel. I wanted any and/or all of my S&W's (new or old) to fit.
I found out that my Remington and Colt conversions, Colt SAA and '75 Rem. would also fit no problems with barrels up to 8".
Just for the record, I prefer the slim Jim style holsters, without the toe plug.
My best,

If you will be making them yourself and would rather skip the patterning them my suggestion would be to look at the WG pattern packs.  He has the Schofield Model included in almost all of his pattern styles and they cover most of the evolution of holster styles from the California up through most of what came in by the turn of the century.  There are even a few pattern packs that are inspired by the famous gunmen of the era who used Schofields.  I always like WGs pattern packs as a starting point, even if extensive alterations were to be done to them and often see commercial holsters offered that appear to have come straight from those patterns.

Graveyard Jack

I've made two so far, for my own uses, both from Ghormley patterns. The first was the Dodge City, which I had a serious hankering for after seeing Rick Gittlein's work. It was done pretty true to the pattern.

The second was the Flames of Hell holster from the remake of 3:10 to Yuma. Will made this one loose for fast work. I took out the slack for better retention and did an oxblood color with antique nickel spots for a little more of an aged look but stuck with the red contrasted stitching.

Deuce Stevens-

late posting for your original post.  I know you are very competitive, and am a little surprised seeing you asking about Schofield leather... laughing... not too many fast shooters use Schofield's... Style points yes, but very few standing in the winners circle, somehow that trigger system is not designed for fast shooting.  BUT.. they are fun to shoot.  I had Red Dog Leather duplicate the holster that Tom Selleck wore in Crossfire Trail using a Schofield. The difference in mine... I had Red Dog design the holster so that the revolver would ride higher with more of the trigger gaurd exposed, and therefore making the revolver draw a little faster than when it is FULLY SEATED with the trigger gaurd all the way down in the holster. I had JMleather down in Texas duplicate the canvas belt worn by Selleck in the movie.  My Schofield's have the 7" barrels and would not be considered "fast draw" revolvers.
