Who can repair the set trigger on a 1876?

Gabriel Law

I didn't know there was such a critter.  I'd love to see some pictures of it.

Very nice rifle indeed, and a really understated set trigger.  Can you tell us what you think is wrong with the trigger, and while I have the floor, could you pls. post a picture of that rear sling swivel?  I'm in the process of making swivels for my own rifle, and I'd love them to be historically correct if possible.  I see the front one is missing from the nose cap.

If I can help you with the trigger, I would be pleased to do so.  I've made quite a few set triggers from scratch for various projects.  So replicating a part shouldn't be too difficult.

Swivel:
See this post....it will show a photo of the rear swivel before I replaced it and if you follow the thread you will find other info on replacement swivel parts that will work.  I do not have a photo of the replaced swivel and I can not get to the rifle to take a current photo.  I need to get a front swivel installed on this one.

Set Trigger:
I don't know what is wrong with it other than it will not set.  I have not seen a drawing of how it works or what the parts look like...If I could find pictures of the parts or a drawing I could possibly figure out what is not working.

Thanks for the reply, and the great link.  Your photos of the swivels, and your excellent description, tell everything.

Regarding your set trigger, probably all that is wrong is some wear on the contact points of the mechanism, which after some careful stoning, would correct them.

how complicated would that be to take make this repair for someone with some mechanical skills?  Do you have any pictures or drawings of the parts?

Gabriel Law

Sorry no - I do not.  If I did, I'd make one for my own rifle!!  If I were to see your trigger mechanism, even a couple of good pictures of it, I could likely make one.  Until I see your mechanism, I cannot say what might be wrong with it.  Better yet to have it in hand.  I doubt if anything is broken, but one never knows.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

There's some excellent information on Winchester single set triggers here:
