I have a USFA Lightning carbine in .44-40 that I haven't shot in years.  A friend is interested in buying it.  I have looked at the auction sites and can't find any recent sales.  This is a plain Jane standard model.  Anyone have an idea what these are going for?  I don't want to gouge him so if there are any recent sales you know about that would help a lot in determining what I'll sell it to him for.

I have seen three sell on GB. A new unfired 38-40 trapper carbine went for $2399.00, a new unfired 38-40 26" standard rifle went for $2000.00, and a used fired 45 Colt standard rifle went for $1700.00. I think there was another one but I can't remember it. It could have been on another website instead of GB. I have seen a very exceptional one fully engraved with fancy wood listed on GB for around $4500.00 but no one has ever bid on it.

The Trapper had a 16" barrel and a special taper barrel and retaile for $2155 with standard wood and finish.  I saw the the rifles Lou mentioned and remember the $2000 price.  I think a standard rifle would be in the  $1800-2000 range.

If I was selling to a friend, and the rifle was still in new or near new condition, I wouldn't ask more than what I originally paid for it.

I just lucked into this one a few weeks ago.  Unfired and just as new.  I paid $1800.  The owner of a local gun shop had it as part of his personal collection.
