I own several original .50 Express guns and have to say that they are a lot of fun to shoot.  I prefer the .45-75 as an all around hunting cartridge, but the Express has served me well on several buffalo over the past 10 years.  The only problem I have found with the original 1 in 60 twist, is that the short 300 grain bullet doesn't seen to stabilize until it is out 75 to 125 yards.  Other than that, this is an exceptional caliber.  Great looking rifle and you'll have a lot of fun.

You bet! Pinto Bean's. Buck, I'm with Ya . That .50 -95 wcf has a roar ,and is a powerful round.Like you ,the .45-75wcf is my favorite chambering for the M1876 Winchester. That 350gr. .458 bullet, a stout load of #2ff bp. combined with the faster twist rate ,is very accurate and hit's like Thor's Hammer. The M1876 in the sporting configuration 28" oct barrel ,cressent butplate ,and the .45-75wcf fit's me well for offhand shooting or off the bag,s. The last buck I took with this combo, was one of those shoot now or watch him run -off  deal's. I threw the old 76 up, sight's came to point ,looked good ,so give her a squeeze .Could tell I had hit him hard by the thump sound, and him giving a high- buck before he crumbled . We paced over for a look see,and the shot was around 156 paces or so.  Nothing to bragg about ,but really supprised the other hunter's ,cause it happened so fast. Heck I was supprised to.That is what these old gun's are made for, and they still do it well.,,,,,,,Dusty
