Anybody know a good reliable 45-60 brass supplier? I bought a Uberti 1876 in 45-60 back in May and ordered brass from a supplier that had it in stock. I sent them the money and they said they sold out all the brass and I'm in on the next run this summer. Well, still no brass. I got  a lever match coming up in about 3 weeks and am running out of time. I can cut down 45-70 brass but I hate to waste the time.  Just trying to find a supplier so I can get loading and shooting. 3 weeks ain't much time for loading and practicing with an unfired gun. I'll be shooting at a plate the size of a bucket at 200 yards with a 300 grain lead bullet from Montana Bullet Works. Any helpful load starting info would be appreciated. I shelled out $240 for brass. I hope it comes in the next week. If not, there's always next years shoot.

Buy some factory ammo to hold you over and then you have brass as well to reload.  TenX has factory 45-60.

I've called them. They don't have any. They are waiting on brass also.

Get someone to trim down .45-70 cases for you until you can get properly headstamped cases.  If you can do this yourself, there is a You Tube video for first timers and several guys here have done it.  That or spend the Gold Eagles on some lathe turned cases from someone like Rocky Mountain.

You might ask on this site for someone to sell you a couple dozen until they become available again.  Also, here is a few rounds ready to go plus some brass for auction.  Is this enough?

Been waitin on Buffalo Arms since last winter to get some Starline, there is no word on any coming available anytime soon. In the meantime, cut down .45-70 is your best option.

I was just talking to CapTech International about 45-75 brass, they have a bunch in stock.  I also asked about 45-60 brass and they expect to have it available in about a month.  Their phone # 605-791-1974.

I have bought their brass before and like it.

Once you get set up to make .45-60 brass from .45-70 it goes pretty quickly.  I timed myself the other night.  Starting with twenty-five fired .45-70 cases I had twenty-five ready to use (except for polishing) .45-60 cases in twenty-seven minutes.  The Dremel drill press attachment really speeds things up.

I have owned two .45-60WCF rifles.  And all I could get was cut down .45/70 brass.  I took a Lee .45/70 case trimmer and shortened it so I could reduce the size of the Government length brass to the .45/60 length.  I did a batch of 100 the first time and 150 the second time.  Can't remember how long it took, as I was concentrating on the process and daydreaming about how I was going to load them and what bullet, powder charge, and type of powder would be best.

Your best bet is to trim .45-70 back to .45-60WCF spec's.

Grapeshot & others,

I do not want to change the subject but I could use an answer.  It would help me decide whether to buy correct 45/60 or continue cutting some 45/70's.  I made 8 sofar but they did not eject from the Chappy.

I asked the following question in one of my other posts but never got a response so I will try here since the subject has been mentioned.  Do formed cases from 45/70 eject from your rifle?  Is there a rim diameter issue? ie. Win 0.630" to 0.603" for 45/70's.

Just let me know that in your Chappy rifles the rim diameter of the 45/70's do not cause ejection issues.

I beleive I have to change the extractor in this rifle but once that is done, will the cut 45/70's work?

Thanks

My Chappy feeds and ejects reformed .45/70 brass like it was made for it as does my Uberti .45-60 carbine.

Thanks for the response.  That does save about $40.

I don't know if it helps, but I've got cases that have thinned rims and plain cut down .45-70's.  Both eject perfectly from my Uberti.
