Went to the range with my original 56 50 carbine.
six shots,   2 7/8 inch group dead center.
I raised the front site,  soft soldered a new blade.  Very easy, tin solder.
filed down to hit point of aim at 50 yds.

    35 FFg. GOEX
    pad back card wad
    2 newspaper wads
LP  REG primer with newspaper over primer-wad
350 lyman 515 RNFP.  cast a little soft...
( I was casting hard, too much tin, and got bad targets.)
Soft cast seems to work better.
hand lubed and UN sized.     SPG base wiped clean before loading.
   OCL 1.55
TIGHT HOLD ON CARBINE, PULLED INTO SHOULDER TO COUNTER HEAVY HAMMER BLOW.

cycles perfectly, very accurate.

Dispense with the wads as not needed for this type ctg. You'll have more room fro BP.  ;)

Hey Fox Creek....every time I think I'm getting close,  another idea like yours comes up..ok..no wads huh?   Kind of makes sense.  the 56 50 is just a big 45 colt and no wads used there.
trouble is,   I got a couple of great groups using two overprimer wads, and the card and two newspaper wads behind the bullet.
I used two newspaper wads over the primer and it seemed to work.
IF and I stress IF, it ever warms up in New England again, I'll try a few without the wads under the bullet.
I cast them soft, and I think this had a positive effect.

       it's the journey anyway,,right....Ken

39 grains 2F, one 1/2 inch wad cut from a milk or ice cream container.  The wad does serve to separate the powder from the lube that is always on the base of the bullet.  May not be much with which to be concerned but punching the wad from the container is no real problem.  If I remember, our cartridge lengths are much the same.  Paledun
