Howdy all I loaded up without thinking some 40/60 Marlin with full house black powder load and a Walters wad on the top. Just wondering if I am going to have any trouble with this combo ringing the chamber?. I use this method with my 45/70 Sharps just wanted to get some input.

Thanks

I believe you will be OK.

The Darksiders Den is where the experience resides, with more in BROW and also in the 1876 forum, where rounds similar to the Marlin are  loaded

I agree with Sir Charles deMouton -Black . Although not the same ,I have loaded 40-60wcf with full charge of BP. and a card wad under the bullet with never a problem. The same for my 45-75wcf, AND THE 45-60 wcf. I no longer use wads in either cartridges as I found them not needed. In my case these rifle cartridge combo's never are ask to shoot long strings without a bore wipe and the soft lead bullets keep back the gasses just fine without a wad.Good Luck with the 40/60 Marlin a fine cartridge.,,,,DT

As long as the wad and bullet are in firm contact with the powder, there should be no problem. There likely won't be much problem with even a small bit of airspace between the wad and bullet base, the Schuetzen shooters of old that breech seated their rounds did so with up to 1/8 in gap between the case mouth and the bullet.
Black is more forgiving when it comes to wringing chambers than smokeless due to the lower pressure spike of black powder..
