New to forum and checking on a rifle a friend of mine found on his ranch along Sarpy Creek near Hysum Montana.   About 50 years ago he found this rifle laying on the ground out in the hills in the middle of his ranch.  It's still operational and looks to be in fair condition.  He does not know how it got there except maybe his grandad had the rifle and lost it off horseback one day.  Could have been lost in the 1950's.  I've had 2 rifles come out of saddle scabbards myself.  Anyways the serial number is 52519.  In case your interested, Sarpy Creek is about 20 miles north of the Little Bighorn Battlefield.  It's hard to believe the rifle had been lying on the ground all that long seeing the condition.  Would you know any of the history associated with that rifle?

Need more info on the Spencer, if that's what you have . . . photos would be nice to look at, especially of the receiver area - top bottom and sides; any other marks or lettering on the top of the receiver . . . need to see photos ::) ::)

If you need to, send them to me at fsgrand2@fairpoint.net . . . nice clear, sharp photos maybe 800 x600 pixels in size with day lighting if possible . . . especially the receiver area as mentioned before.  Hopefully, you or your friend will join SSS!
