Howdy Cascity,

Ive had a 1851 MWNN for almost a year now,  and thus far been very fun gun to shoot.

I have noticed while surfing around a spring type wedge for locking in the barrel, I have found them somewhere for like 23.00.
And although mine has the screw you turn to lock it in place, I think I like the idea of the spring one.

I'd imagine it will work on any Uberti?   Anyone have experience with these?
Thanks all.

The wedge in your pistol has no spring and you have to turn the retaining screw so the flat is down in order to remove it. This is the "conversion" style.

The "spring type" wedge is the cap and ball style and uses a different screw. This screw allows the wedge to slide in and out without the use of a screwdriver for disassembly purposes.

Order the wedge and the screw. Make sure it is of Uberti Manufacture. VTI sells them.

Thanks Hoof Hearted,

You nailed it exactly, think I like the idea of disassembly with out a screwdriver if I dont have to, does the spring
wedge hold just the same?  Wear out or weaken?  Thanks again!

It will work fine, I have done this exchange many times. To be proper the wedge should slide in until the tip of the spring just "peeks" ot on the off side. You may or may not have to narrow the wedge slightly with a file.

Iwent the other way, and converted some C&B's to the 72 type wedge.

Ditto to Flint.  I use a cylinder loading stand as none of my Cap Guns have useable rammers, if any rammers at all (3 inch barrels & 5 inch barrels).  Because I remove the cylinder every stage, the retaining hook on the wedge becomes a huge nuisance.  The Open  Top wedge is a really good solution.  It a real pain to pop the hooks out of an 1860/51 wedge.

Flint and Coffinmaker,

Not familiar with the type your talking about...?

Norseland,
It's the wedge for the Uberti 1871/72 Open Top.  The wedge doesn't have a retaining spring.  Just a milled depression for a retaining screw.

It is also not square like the normal C&B wedge.  The conversion has a rounded edge on the front.
