I am restoring my Dad's Stevens Favorite, an 1894 model, and it's missing the takedown screw.  I have thoroughly Googled it, and some places that make new parts don't carry the screw.  There was one on eBay recently that went for almost $30!  Sounds like someone could make good $$$ making replacement ones.  I was going to try using a cap screw from the hardware store, they are 5/16 bolt, but neither the 18 thread or 24 thread were correct, so it must have a thread unique to it.  Last resort, I could have a machinist make me one.  Anybody got one laying around?

You might consider drilling it out and re-tapping it for a standard thread.  It wouldn't be exact as original, but it will work.

Managed to nab one on eBay for a resonable price, thanks for the help.

For anyone else looking for parts for these Rifles, both "Wisner's" and  "Jack first" have parts.  In 2013 I bought a take down screw from them and had to go back and talk to them again, the First one they sent was the knurled head one for the 1915 series model, the 1894 one is the same thread, but is smooth sided drilled and has a Wire Loop in the hole.  The second one sent was correct for my rifle.
I have also purchased replacement extractors, a hammer and a trigger and am very satisfied with the service from both vendors.  Note that you need to order the printed three volume catalog set from "Jack First" before you can order parts.  the catalog has part illustrations with part numbers to reference so both you and the order taker are talking the same part.

19 October 2013 Added Source:  "Muzzleloader Builders Supply", P.O. Box 848, Aberdeen, ID 83210; Toll free Order line = 877-397-3008; Reg. Tel. = 208-397-3008; 24hr FAX = 208-397-3009 makes some of the screws to fit Stevens Actions.  They have the Barrel Lock Screw, Hammer and Trigger Screw ( two of the same size) for the 1894 series and also the Breech Block Pivot and the Hammer and Trigger screws for the 1915 series, I did not ask about others.  The 1894 screws are from Alloy 1144 'Stressproof' Steel and the 1915 BB pin and lock screw are from Alloy 4140 Steel.  They do not currently make the 1894 BB screw nor the Lever screws for either 1894 nor 1915 series due to the Thread Stevens used, they have not identified it nor been able to cut it yet.

I hope this information is of use to others.

Also, Dixie Gun Works has some Stevens Favorite parts. Not much, but it you can't get it anywhere else...

Here's an 1984 Stevens Favorite that I just repaired/refinished this last year at school:

The bore was completely shot out and the link pins were worn. Plus someone in the past had shortened the barrel at the
breech end. It was a good job, so I suspect it wasn't a backyard shed type job.  Made new link pins, relined the barrel,
re-blued and color case hardened the rest.

Dixie Gun Works (DGW) does list some parts but the screws are marked as not in stock and DGW does not allow 'back orders' for parts no.  tin stock.  I have had this problem in the past with listed items not in stock and the order canceled repeatedly.
Oh well, usually my Credit Card was credited back with the money they did not earn.
