Got my chronicle yesterday and liked the article that Cuts submitted. This was much needed in light of the recent controversy about lack of smoke in the black powder category's. I hope we can maintain a shred of authenticity in these category's thanks Cuts!

Good article Crooked.
I don't think I'll ever be accused to fakin' my loads (ask Doc Shapiro, about High Sierra 2005).  If I wanted to be really competitive, I would not choose FC as my category of choice.  I think some folk believe there are fewer shooters in this group, and therefore they have a better chance of placing (I know I only place in categories where I'm third out of three shooters).  More people are moving to this and other BP categories, so it is now being a matter of "stretchin' the envelope".  I'm still out there to make the RO cough, and the counters yell "MORE POWDER" !

Got my Chronical today ;D

I will say that Tex toned my artical down a bit in the editing room (need a little "wiping the sweat off my brow gif here)
which was probably a good thing. (I got a litle rough on those who don't show, what I consider to be"spirit of the game") I tend to go overboard on subjects that I have passion about!

Keep em loud 'n smokey, pards! 8)

Ho Cuts,

I felt your case was well stated.  Also, it fit rite in with whut Tex was sayin'.  And for myself, I'd sure like to see this sport avoid the pitfalls of gamerism and spoiled spirit.

Don't back off one inch.  The kind of shooters that will be offended can shoot some other discipline or category.  I won't miss 'em one bit.  Of course, I'll still have to put up with 'em shootn' Gunfighter. . . .

My Chronicle hasn't come yet but I asked my postman about it.  He said the fellers at the post office thought the article was real good.  He also said they should be done readin the Chronicle by the end of week and I should have it by Saturday or so.

Got my Chronicle today and have to say that I fully support the stand taken by Cuts Crooked and Tex both.

I look at it this way - if I was having to put my life on the line with loads I carry in my CAS firearms, I'd want them to be full-power loads.  In fact, I've been accused of putting extra powder in my loads to make them smoke even more than they should.

That said, I like Cuts' view on what to shoot when the Warthogs are too much.  I have a fondness for the conversions and have been known to switch between converted Armies in .44 Colt and converted Navies in .38 Special as the mood strikes.  But they all smoke like a house a'fire!

Well written Cuts!  Thanks for helping keep the Spirit of the Game alive!

My cartoon "comment" was directed towards the bit about the Postman comment.  We mailmen have to look at SOMETHING int'resting, ya know! ;)

Seriously, I couldn't agree with Cuts OR Tex more.  It's one of the reasons I enjoyed the NCOWS Eastern Regional so much:  most of the competitors were shooting BP or approved subs.  And Cuts, there was NO question in anyone's  mind regarding the massive clouds of smoke!  ;D ;D You'd a been proud!

I haven't shot at a SASS match for about 2 yrs.  This is for economic reasons only, not because of some dissatisfaction with SASS.  The pards where I would shoot SASS, the Deer Creek Regulators, are great to shoot with, and not OVERLY competition driven.  I do, however, get the feeling that overall, SASS has turned a corner towards the racegun mentality, and so ... certainly NOT all the SASS folks.  We all enjoy placing well.  I'm proud as punch that I scored 1st in the BP Duelist category at the Regional.  (And no, I'm NOT going to inquire whether I was the only competitor in that class!  ::) ;))

US Scout, Are you a "Rider of the STORM"? If not, you should get over to the STORM forum and register! Steel Horse Bailey and I are both Shooters of The Open tops & Richard Masons. 8)  I love my little 38 Open Top, it's one of the most accurate guns I shoot! ;D

Steel Horse, Funny, I also shoot more NCOWS than SASS these days, and for the same reasons...economics. One of my SASS clubs has moved to a range that's a considerable drive from me, and another has folded up :-\ I can't justify driving the length & breadth of the state regularly fer a one day match. But The Fort Des Moines Rangers is less than 30 minutes from my house. ;D I did shoot with The Boarder Regulators, down at Mt Ayre this past weekend, too because it was the last match I'm going to be able to attend fer a while. Had a great time  but I was the only darksider there. On the plus side, I think both posse's stopped to watch every time I shot! Weather conditions were jist right and The Dark Gods were smiling on me because I was getting frequent smoke rings at every stage! 8) :D 8) :D

Cuts - I'm STORM #9, so I'm right behind you on the list.

Love the conversions, though I have to admit my favorite shooter is an 1959/1863 Remington converted to .44 Colt by RL Millington.  I pair it with an Open-Top in the same caliber.
