Does anyone have a Rapine bullet mold number 512–350T? I am shooting an original Spencer 1860 model and I am experiencing carbon fouling in the barrel with the bullet I am currently using. I am looking for some bullets from the Rapine 512-350 mould or purchasing that mold.

The original 1860 Spencer's were chambered for the 56-56 round.
The one original 56-56 "H" (Winchester) head stamped round I have measures .540 just forward of the case mouth. It is an outside lubed heel bullet.
The .512 to .516 is the dia. for the 56-50 round. These are inside lubed bullets (non heel based).
Just a thought.

The Rapine 350T mould is no good in most original 56-50 Spencers as it sits in the case too far and the OAL will be to short,it can work very well in the Sprinfield converted carbines to rifle with a longer case or Spencers that have simular long chambers(there will not be many of these)For the 56-56 there is a very good healed mould made wich caries plenty of lube but I can not recall the maker

Herbert--If the Rapine 350T is too short how about the Rapine 515320 or 520300?? Have these been experimented with
for the 56-50's

Two flints--Both molds mentioned above don't have the crimping  groove that are show on the Buffalo Arms site.
Both  of these were originally meant for the Smiths/Maynards carbines. If used they would have to be crimped
behind front driveing band. I suspect they won't work

I have no experiance with these two Rapine moulds so I can not coment on them.If your Spencer is defintly a 56-50 there are some very good moulds made especily for this cartridge ,A couple that I can personly recomend are the BACO .520-375gr and the NEI .525-395gr,booth of these bullets will be the right OAL wen crimped on the crimp groove with standard lenth 56-50 cases and alow 40gr of compresed FF powder to be used and booth give very good acuracy in original 56-50 Spencers, these are the ones I use there are other very good moulds out the for the 56-50.

Two Flints I was not aware that BACO made a healed bullet for the 56-56(it looks very good and I belive I will try one as I could not contact the maker of the one that was posted on here previously)For those that do not know a heals base bullet need a  special type of crimp die or tool to crimp the bullet (a bit like a Lee factory crimp die)so the bullet does not need a crimp groove, though I prefer it to be there

Back to your original problem, I don't see the bullet as the source of the fouling problem. Either your bore is too pitted or you're not using enough lube. Fill the grooves and make sure there is an extra glob on the base.
