I have a new pair of Cattleman 45 Colts that I'd like to decorate just a little.   I have some nickel 45 cases and a mini lathe.  I'd like to make some medallions from said cases and install them on the grips.  Any suggestions on how to cut inlays in the grips?

Major 2

Forstner bit of the correct size, and a dab of 2 part epoxy.
when planets align...do the deal !

Thanks,

I measured the head of a 45 Colt case. It came out a few thousandths over .500".   I was thinking of thaking them off the Cattleman and marking the spot and drilling a small pilot hole.  Then making a bed with modeling clay on a small board so they have a chance to be held in a stable position.   Maybe chuck the Forstner bit in drill press.  If I could rig up a way to turn by hand so to not go too deep.

Many drill presses have a depth stop. Milling machine would be best if you have access to one.

My drill press is an el-cheapo. I'll check before starting!
