I took my youngest out to the range today to see if he could handle a .357 lever gun and a sawed off 12ga as hes only ever fired a .22.
first off i tried the 5/8oz loads i had made up,
recoil = 0, knock down targets = down :)
he tried 8 shells all successful, he was happy, so he tried some of my super light 7/8oz loads, and he liked them more than the 5/8oz loads, then some 1oz loads, they were ok but i think he'd get gun shy with them.
maybe i'll load him some 3/4oz loads for a bit more grunt that the 5/8 and a little less recoil for faster follow up shot than the 7/8 load, and i want to try some mouse fart 12ga loads for me.
on to the lever gun, and he went very well, as in faster then some of the guys at my club!
looks like i have to load cowboy ammo for two now, ;)

That's good news. We need more young shooters.

You didn't mention, how old, or how big is this buckaroo?

he's 11, and a small build,
i think it will be good for him (or any kid), way better then computer gaming
