Cap fix?

A while ago there was a thread running showing a simple remedy to prevent the cap coming back into the works by installing a pin in the middle of the gap where the hammer falls, any pards know where this thread is?

Save yourself the trouble.  Simple solution that sounded to good to be true.  It was to good to be true.  Didn't work for crap.  You would be better off welding the slot in the hammer up, machining the face perfectly flat and using good nipples and caps.

Hi PUK,

Most of us use the little strap on the back of the Cap to adjust the fit.  If your cap doesn't have an adjustable strap, get a new Cap.  I've also personally found the strap is an effective way to adjust for your particular Head Space.  So:  be sure and check your Caps for Straps and match your head space to your Cap size

I have seen that pin work for some folks - but they also upgraded their nipples to tresos at same time.

There is a pard at our shoots has done said conversion and it has stopped all caps jamming up his 1861 Navy. So I will keep it in mind.

My thoughts now are...

I wanted Slix for my Dragoon BUT none fit!! the Dragoon nipples have the bigger Pietta threads!! But the Slix is too short in the shoulder for the Dragoon, Sooooooooooooooo... I am making yet another Puk conversion a Std Dragoon nipple will become a Slix!!

I bored out the shank and drilled a nice 1mm hole through it I then hardened and then I let her rip!!

As you can see...Too much pressure coming from a Dragoon methinks, I have now got a set of Ampro? nipples on order, and the hammer face is gonna be introduced to Mr MIG!!!

I don't speak metric, but 1mm is .0393".  The hole in the Slix is .030" so it is almost 25% smaller.  The walls of the cone on the Slix are also quite thin with the center bored out to make a mini-expansion chamber.  The center hole in the cone area on the Slix is .110."  I don't have a stock nipple handy, but the center of a Treso is .080".

Ampro nipples installed, hammer face migged, #11 Remmie caps...

Loaded all six chambers 10 times, 60 rds!!  No Problems whatsoever
