When replacing the front sight do you remove the old one to the right or left?  The replacement will go on  the same side as the old one came off?   Or does it matter witch way it come off?

You should be able to mike the width of the dovetail & then tap it out from the "smaller" end.
I recollect it is usually the right to left when removin'.  But you best look at it carefully.
Ask them fine folks at Brownells Tech Line.  They might know(???).

You didn't say what gun it was but on the Winchester and Marlin 94's it's "Gently tap the left side of the sight base with a wooden dowel, driving the sight off the barrel to the right side."

The front has the hole in the end, the back goes against your shoulder, the right side has the loading gate............ ;)

Hope this helps
