We have tried a couple of these and have not found one yet that will stay in the chamber.  Tried the strongest Loctite and it shot loose on the third or fourth shot.  The adapters that are to shoot pistol in rifle I.E. .32 S&W in 30/30 and .30 Carbine in 30/30 work good.

The US Navy used these chamber adapters for a time in their M1 Garand.  I guess they did the job, but they weren't mechanically attached and if they ever came out and the shooter didn't notice and attempted to keep firing .308 in a .30-06 chamber, I'll leave the rest up to your imagination... (1/2 inch difference in case size).

Bottom line: why take a chance ?  the .30-06 is a long action cartridge and superior to boot.  You can download it to what suits you also.
                        God bless and protect you,

Hi Cliff,
I checked out your site, I see you are an artisan, nice shop.  Just trying to keep our friend safe, encourage him to be happy with the cartridge he's already using.  I have some .308s, fine rifles, but up here the .30-06 gives a little more zip and you can use a heavier bullet for moose hunting.  No 300 WinMag for me, I get a chuckle when some guys are siting them in, they usually leave holding their shoulder (but if they hit the moose, he's down).  God bless you, keep up the good work.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I consider the 30-06 as slightly superior to the .308 for several reasons. Generally it shoots at a higher muzzle velocity, about 100 fps.  This gives the advantage of less bullet drop, more downrange power and less wind drift.  There is also a wider range of bullets available in factory ammo.  Some disadvantages may be that it burns more powder, possibly more shoulder thump and some consider a long action somewhat of a disadvantage in accuracy.

Like I say, don't have a dog in this fight but do have a model 70 30-06.

They're both great cartridges, I shoot/reload them both.  Years ago I found out about these chamber adapters and was all set to get one for my Garand.  Fortunately, a much more experienced gentleman explained to me the potential danger and I quickly lost the urge and simply used the cartridge it was designed for.  God forbid anything amiss should happen to any of our brethren in the sport.

p.s.  I understand what you're saying about the action lengths, Blackfoot, but there's just something about a Garand kicking out those empties that I can't resist.  Beautifully mechanical !  God bless you and I thank Him for the 2nd amendment.

... and my apologies to the moderator for me getting off topic.  I'll now return to the 19th century, thanks. ;D
