If you have pictures I would greatly apppriciate pictures and thoughts, trying to get some ideas for an upcoming project.

Thanks

I have made several rigs over the years that incorporated suspenders in various ways - most of them used a strap system based on original from the 1870's

the suspenders are attached to the belt via small dee rings on the upper edge of he belt and simple snap hooks (think dog leash) on the strap ends.

Chuck, thank you. I was thinking d-ring wasn't sure how period correct that was. Now I know.

here's another look at the same belt (bad b & w scan) which is belt like a folded money belt with the loops formed by sewing the two layers together between the cartridges. If you look just to the right of the buckles you can see the leather loop that holds the d-ring (which have been around a long time albeit brass ones are mostly post 1860's - prior to that jappaned iron was more common)

Unfortunately I can't show pics 'cause I'm stoopid with a computer, but I just did a prairie belt with suspenders like the one's shown in the pix of the old buf hunter's outfit. Works very well. I'm kinda built like a bean pole and need them to keep 45 rounds of .45-75 from sliding down to my knees. With the snaps and d-rings the whole rig is quite easy to get on and off. An xlnt design. I'm going to add them to my Mills belt for the Trapdoor I have.

As I dislike having to draw my pistols from the location of my knees I had a leather smith make me a copy of the Palmer Belt system, holds up my gun belt quite well.

I only shoot to support my reloading habit.

Old Top, thank you for your input however not to sound dense I could not find a reference to a Palmer belt system when I googled it. Do you have pictures or a web site for the Palmer system.

here is a link to one of the ones I found by google. Old Top got an original from ebuy I think and he had Lefty of Leftys Leather make him one. Here is a pix of his system. It seems to work very well and is a direct copy of an original.
