Anyone have any data on Krag M1896 Carbine #28510? The only thing I can find is in the range of either the 1st U.S. Cavalry (not the 1st USV?) or in between a couple of carbines issued to the 9th Cav. Researching for a friend.

These folks have helped me a few times.  There's also the Springfield Research Service.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

They weren't issued in serial numbered blocks - there can be wide variations in what outfit was issued its small arms.

SRS is probably your best source.

Not listed in the SRS books. Two closest numbers-

28509 06/14/00 9th Cavalry(turned in)

28518 06/14/00 9th Cavalry(turned in)

As others point out these were neither shipped or issued in sequential serial numbers.Existing shipping crate serial number packing lists bare that out.

Thanks, troops! I'm gonna check in with the Krag Collectors, and see what somebody out there might be able to find.

It'll be pretty much what you've read - they use SRS heavily.

Good Luck!

Sure wish this one could talk! Wonder if it went to Cuba or to the Philipines???
