well, after tapping my rear sight to the left, I really cannot tap it any further left or it will fall out of the dovetail... and it's still shooting to the right!

Does one bend the barrel?  The barrel looks straight, but we are going to put a lazer bore sight on it to check it out.  Other than that it shoots well, chambers well and looks nice!  Kind of what I'm afraid of is it becoming a wall hanger that looks good!

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Frontier West,

I had a similar problem with a .36 caliber flint lock rifle.  No matter what I tried, my shots were always hitting way right of my POA.  I sent the rifle back to the maker and after some testing at his home, he determined the fault was with the barrel and specifically, an incorrectly drilled barrel from the factory.

The barrel was replaced and it hits dead-on, now!

Do you have an original barrel on your Spencer?  Or is it a replacement barrel, or a barrel that was modified in some way . . . hope it doesn't end up as a "wall hanger".  Good luck with your Spencer.

It's original!

It's seen lots of service too, sure would like to know at what point it began doing this?  It came with a conversion block too.

I procured an original Maynard with a barrel that looked "excellent" in the interior. However it shot radically right and habitually keyholed. I also had the rear sight as far left as it could go without falling off. I sent the barrel to Bobby Hoyt for a reline and asked that he make a correction to the center alignment if possible. The barrel came back with great center alignment and is a "tack driver" now. The rear sight is only slightly shifted left with the original front sight back on in its original position.
