Looking at adding one or two '71-'72 open tops to my battery of cowboy guns. But I heard from a reliable source that there was a forcing cone cracking issue with the '71-'72 Open Top revolvers in 45LC.  Was told this issue was not a problem in .44 or .38 caliber.  All of my cowboy guns are in 45LC... ease of loading, I started with 45LC.  Has the problem of forcing cone cracking been resolved by the firearms company or is it still an issue.  Anyone experience this cracking problem with open top in 45LC.  Thanks in advance.

I think that problem is largely a thing of the past.  I recently asked the gunsmith for Cimarron if he has seen any of these lately and he said not in a long time.  Of course, YMMV  ;)

If you did crack the barrel like that within a year, it would be a warranty repair, unless you had done an 11-degree cut of the forcing cone.
