I recently wrote an article on the rifles used by the Texas Rangers for the summer issue of Guns of the Old West magazine. I hadn't shot my .44-40 1873 carbine much in the last few years because I've been shooting .45 Colt guns in CAS matches. But writing the article inspired me to get the .44-40 out for a range session.

Another good video Mike, thanks. I have a U-Beauty (as we call them in Australia) rifle in 44/40. Great rifle. The Rangers would have been saving shells and doing a bit of reloading I'm thinking.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

Blackpowder Burn

My favorite cartridge and one of my favorite rifles.

I have a Uberti '73, an original '92 a USFA Lightning and a Pedersoli Lightning, all in 44WCF, and all are fed only BP ammo.

Unlike our Texas Rangers, however, my SAA's are also 44WCF.  ;D
