Using large pistol primers in 56-50 BP

Getting ready to load some 56-50 black powder rounds and realized that the only primers I have right now are large pistol primers, not rifle. I seated one in a piece of brass and tried it (no powder or bullet)  it struck nice and fire shot out of the barrel. Would it be safe to assume that these would work just fine for this application, seeing as the 56-50 load and shell size are close to handgun pressure and velocities. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.

I use them for 45-70, 56-50, 50-70 and .577 snider without any troubles

I have used LPP in all BP cartridges for years,though with tube magizine rifles it doubley important to check that the primer is seated all the way home,if it is ,I belive it is safer than LRP because it is siting slitley below the level of the face of the case enshoring it can not be set off by the following cartridge,if it is not mis-fires can acure + a protruding primer is more likly to explode in the magizine because they are softer than LRP,so it pays to keep those primmer pobkets clean and double check that the primer is properly seated

Pistol primers work fine, but they are MUCH more sensitive than rifle primers. If you have a high one the chances of the magazine blowing are a lot greater. That said, 44-40s use pistol primers and usually don't have a problem. However, I have seen more than one Henry magazine go up at N-SSA, and I once owned a 44-40 Whitney Kennedy that had been wrecked by a magazine explosion.
