Well here are some pix of Forty Rods new knife...and what a beauty it is...balance to beat the band...and while I am not a real fan of the damascaus steel, it is a work of art...and the close up does not do it justice..

and along with it we took a group shot of some of his favorite "kids" with stag...

Tom will be along shortly to describe these works of art and hope you enjoy them as much as I did. (course he made sure that I didn't leave with any of them...

enjoy

ps I went back and got a better detail shot of the blade.

First, I haven't ever been a fan of stag, but they keep following me home.  I'm to where I like it...a LOT...on knives, but still haven't become fond of it on guns.

Second, Longline Charlie sent me the knew one, and until now I haven't cared much for damascus...but Lord, isn't that gorgeous.  I think I'll find some others.

The smallest knife is one my grandfather brought home from Switzerland in 1895-1896. I also have a silver-scaled four-blade vest pocket knife that belonged to him.

The other two are Linder Cutlery. The company has been in business since The Flood and until I got the LC knife, the big Bowie was my favorite knife.

Strangely, the big Linder and the LC knife are almost the same length, and both balance at the front edge of the guard, BUT the LC knife looks smaller and more graceful and...and I can't explain this at all...the LC knife feels so much better in the hand and appears to have more weight toward the center of the handle.  The Linder feels blade heavy, yet they balance the same.

I have a new favorite knife,  LC has cemented an already solid friendship, and you all have my permission to be jealous as all get out.

Thanks, Charlie, a lot...and thank to you too, Curly, for putting the pics on the wire.

Question?   Are the neighbors cattle so tuff you need a sawback?

I've always loved the damacus blades and gun barrels

Tain't a saw back, Roo.  It's some fancy file work called "jimping".  Got a much smaller version on the front of the guard, too.

You should know that.  You've crossed the road a time or twenty.

going thru my pix found this so thought I would post these. They were bought over a 20year period and made by the same guy
They are J. Jacobs.
The next one is an "Original Bowie Knife", I know that cuz it says so on the blade.
Then there is my "Original Bowie Knife" I know it is cuz it says so on the blade.....
next is one I found in Kingsburg CA. Supposedly made by one of them Tule Indians....guess they weren't great knifemakers.
and finally is my rock knife...them rocks can get sharp;

Ya know what?

I love that big Linder 8" Bowie except for two things:

1. That 440 Inox stainless blade and matching guard just really need to be toned down...a lot.

2. the scales are attached with some sort of brass rod - stainless cap arrangement that detracts from the look.

Any suggestions?  (Keep 'em simple, because my skills lie in a totally different direction than being a knife smith.  I'm not sure where they lie, but that ain't it.)
