I'm looking for some good pics or information on the holster/belt Nick Nolte wore in Extreme Prejudice. I have a feeling it may have been a variant of the pattern on page 30 of the Stholman pattern book by Tandy. Any help will be appreciated.

Camano Ridge

I think the picture below shows the holster you are talking about. It was based on the holster worn by The actual Ranger Joaquin Jackson who is the ranger that Nolte's Character is Based on. Thde holster is a take off of the AW Brill style without drop loop or retention strap. SOme will say that the holster worn by nolte is the Austin made by El Paso however the El Paso has a skirt and retention strap. If you go to this site http://www.westernleatherholster.com/authentic-old-west-holsters/  he has a bit of information on the movie and pictures of holsters similar to Noltes as well a the floral carved ranger belt. When you go to the site click on Historical and Movie holsters scroll down quite aways you will find it. Hope this helps.

With respect but at least one of the style of the A. W. Brill holsters does have a skirt - this pic is from the Texas Ranger Museum and you can see the edge of the skirt at the bottom

This one was carried by a famous Ranger in the 1930's - his name escapes me at the moment - also IIRC it is attached to a pair of chaps belt via the integral drop loop which can be seen in the upper left hand corner

Do in internet search for A. W Brill and you'll see several versions of his holsters

as for the Western leather holster site - be careful using them as a resource - while some pieces are good copies there are several hat are not like the Quigley knife sheath - it's a joke not anything like the one in the movie other than it's a knife sheath..

Yes it's the same,  ,
except it's sloped on " backward rake,",  like a Tom Threepersons's holster, with a filler and perhaps an open end?

That's what I thought. I have that pattern and looks like I'll have to modify it. Not too much of a problem. Drop it below the front sight, and I like a little more leather over the trigger guard. And a 10 or 15% cant (FBI). By the way, you do beautiful work.

Camano:

I found the same pic when I searched for photo's of the movie. It is the best I could find. Thanks all.

"Once I had customized the Colt Commander, it hung from a gun belt designed and crafted by my friend Jo Pena, a saddlemaker from Uvalde. The holster was handmade by another Ranger, Tolliver "Tol" Dawson, the ony supplier I knew who fashioned holsters for .45 holsters on the old Brille design. The Brille holster has never been surpassed in efficiency, utility and beauty."

"To ensure authenticity, the producers also hired Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson as a consultant and Nolte closely patterned his character and his weaponry after him. "

They are great links. Thanks for the help.

This is may be a little off subject. When I worked on "The Rough Riders" movie several years ago, Joaquin Jackson was the security guard at the main gate. Spoke to him every morning for about a month. Very nice guy (wouldn't want to cross him though) and a legend in Texas.

So. I modified the pattern, cut it out using 6-7 oz leather from Weavers for a Commander. Cut the lining out from the same side. Glued, stitched, trimmed, burnished the edges and finished with edge coat. The belt loop came out too small: I wanted it to accommodate a 2 1/4" ranger style belt. So this will be my 1st. attempt. My son expressed a desire for one too. So, back to the drawing board. I'll try to post some pics when it drys and I can dress it up with Carnauba Cream.
