I don't think we want to have our convention in Branson Missouri  2014... they sound like some of them don't like guns..

Missouri Democrats have introduced a measure that if passed into law, would give owners of certain types of "assault" weapons 90 days to either turn them in to authorities, disable them or ship them out of the state, Jim Hoft reported at the Gateway Pundit Thursday.

According to House Bill 545, "assault" rifles are defined as any semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine that has one or more of the following characteristics:

a. A pistol grip or thumbhole stock;

b. Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand;

c. A folding or telescoping stock; or

d. A shroud attached to the barrel, or that partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel.

The law also applies to certain semi-automatic pistols and semi-automatic shotguns with similar characteristics.

Democrats in the state also want to confiscate pistols or rifles with fixed magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

The law also prohibits anyone, including gun makers, from manufacturing, importing, possessing, purchasing, selling, or transferring any "assault weapon" or large capacity magazines.

The law does not apply to law enforcement officers, members of the military and federal agents and employees.

Those already in possession of these weapons or magazines will have 90 days to:

Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state of Missouri;
Render the assault weapon permanently inoperable; or
Surrender the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to the appropriate law enforcement agency for destruction, subject to specific agency regulations.
If the proposal becomes law, those who violate it will be charged with a Class C felony, punishable by up to seven years in prison.

"It's disarmament and a complete dissolve of the Second Amendment," Dana Loesch wrote on her website.

But, Loesch says, the proposal has very little chance of becoming law since Republicans hold a super-majority in the state legislature.

"The bill has only been introduced and read twice; it's a go-nowhere bill but designed, I think, to test the waters as we've seen numerous bills of similar sort introduced in other states," she added before posting the contact information of the Democrats proposing the measure.

That's something to think about. I wonder if the SASS folks are aware of this info. because their 2013 Convention is scheduled for December 2013.

yeah! that is interesting ,  I had done a fact finding mission on a venue in Branson , ( I'm in the Trade show Biz)

I approched them with NCOWS in mind, the Convention Coordinator for one of the venues I contacted is a Female SASS shooter.
She offered some great perks & prices ...( I would have offered my findings at the convention)
however, if the Missouable Democrat's have their way we'd be better served to bypass the State.

They don't have as much chance passing it as a snow ball in hell. (Thank God!)  The Republicans control both houses.
[Even the People's Democratic Republic of Illinois shot down their assinine bill.]

I am just curious what the sponsor is thinking.  Is he/she pandering to his ultra-left constitutentcy?  Gun control in Missouri (outside Kansas City & St. Louis) is a third rail item.

Can't say as to how this should sway any decisions on a venue. It's most likely just some liberal democrats doing a little posturing, especially since the Republicans hold both houses of the state senate as Books stated.

On the other hand, suppose the snowball does survive hell.  We would not be wanting to give any NCOWS money to such a state - my opinion and 2 cents worth.  Same reason I will drive out of my way to avoid IL when traveling to the National.  Got no interest in being there.

Keep in mind that Branson has been taken over by Hollywood types.

Springfield, which is on the Interstate*, is the World Headquarters for Bass Pro Shops.

I'd say your right. May be some Dems from urban areas that are out of touch.

Dont be too embarrassed, it not just there they are all over the big cities. It's not nearly as bad as the Missouri proposal but I read where a couple ultra-left Democrats in Kentucky are wanting to introduce a gun ban of some sort even though there is no chance of it going anywhere. I think one is from Louisville and one from Lexington, the biggest urban areas in the state, where constituents cant think for themselves.

Yep Tom, I'm from Illinois originally and I get worried when I go home because I have a concealed carry permit.  Illinois laws are just plain crazy, but I don't how well they're enforced downstate.

Springfield is next to I-44. There would be fewer attractions than Branson and less traffic than Branson. There is always a lot of bus tours of seniors as well as the regular tourist trade. If you arrived on a Thursday,you attend some shows and Friday as well. It would be more of a Las Vegas atmosphere than Springfield. I think that Springfield would be a better fit that Branson.

My guess is you will find some variation of this bill introduced in virtualy every state by some variation of Democrat.  I suppose you could hold the convention in South America somewhere?

Let my clearify, my previous post.... "fact finding mission on a venue in Branson"

I was not working in any assigned capacity, simply window shopping ... ( I felt we need be looking, in light of a need for a Venue for 2014 )
I have no preferences for or against Branson or Springfield.

I believe that all the sponsors of that bill are from the St Louis area, so if you want to boycott someplace, that would be the one.Those of us in the rest of the state don't claim them. I've always thought it would be a great idea to just give St Louis to Illinois, all we have to do is re-route the Mississippi River around the west side.....

If Illiniois takes St. Louis, see if they have room left for Austin.  I'd love to see that little smudge in the middle of our Repubic move back east where it belongs.

Why?  Why do we let them breed?  Don't matter which kind, they should be spayed or neutered just as soon as they're elected.  Better yet, make it a qualification for running for office.

Jeez.

I heard that here in Iowa, a liberal wants to ban all semi-auto guns, rifles, pistols, and shotguns, its a free country and a legislator
can introduce any bill. We just need to make sure that they get nowhere, and this one definitly won't here. Remember to make
your voice heard. On the other note I like the idea of the conv. in missouri, its probably centraly located for most of the members
