Hello. Brand new here and have a question. I just bought my first Scholfied (.45 Colt) and it shots at least 4" low at 15 yds. I loaded it with a 250gr bullet & 8 grs Unique. Shoots to same place with Sliver Tips. What are my options? I love the gun but don't love the way it shoots. Groups are OK but POI stinks.
Please help.

Marsh,

I have a pair of 5 barreled Navy Arms Schofields and had the same problem.  I removed about half of the front sight to get them to shoot to point of aim at 7 yards.  Take off a little at a time and keep the top of the sight parallel with the top of the barrel.  The finished product looks just fine and polish the top of the sight when done to remove the sharp edges.

Thanks guys. I have a big Keith on steroids that weights about 280grs I might try, but prefer the traditional shape.  I can also file down the front sight and have done so with other single actions, but wanted to retain the half moon shape.
Hell-er-high water, do you have a picture of yours with the sight mod?

Howdy Pards.

Marsh, Pard I think that the front sight is pinned in.  One of the Pards here has made  new front sights out of a period dimes.  You can get a new, shorter sight made and save the profile of the one that came with it.  If you use a dime you will also get the gyped edge.

That is just what I think I know.

Marsh,

Yes I have pictures of the modified front sight.  I have them downloaded in my Kodak Easy Share program on my computer but have yet to figure out how to get them posted on the forum.  If somone can run me through this process step by step it would be appreciated.  If it would be easier to explain in an eMail rather than on the forum my eMail address is wrheller@sbcglobal.net.  Thanks for any help that anyone may be able to offer.

Marsh,

Well here goes.  I have followed Joss's instructions for adding pictures to a post and let's see if I followed it correctly.

I got them transfered.  Next time I'll figure out how to reduce the size a bit.

Thanks Joss, your instructions work fine, even for us that are not too computer smart.

Thanks a lot Hell. That looks pretty darn good. I think I'll tackle this project this weekend.

If you haven't filed the sight yet, try reducing your load.  A slower moving bullet will shoot higher.  The Schofield is not the strongest design in pistols so using light to moderate loads will keep it running longer.

HELP!!!!. In filing my sight down, I got over eager and took off too much. Now it shoots high. The only thing I know to do is replace the front sight & start over. How is it attached? I figure if I can get it off I can fashion a new one out of something but don't know how to get the old one off. Anyone know?
