Scout,

You had to take it there didn't you..... ;)

I know, when you joined, they didn't even have cammies and you qualified with the Springfield 03A3.   :o

That would make you how old ;D

Lone Gunman, one things for sure, at least in your case it's true that time does heal all wounds.

Maj Matt-

I suppose I should come back with some snappy reply, but its "OUR" Birthday, so I'm gonna cut you some slack.

Like Lone Gunman said, 'what are cammies?"

In my day (ie, in the Old Corps), we wore the green sateens - starched to a knive's edge.  The only "cammies" were the privately purchased tiger stripes that the recon boys and advisors wore.

Didn't qualify with the Ought-three, but I would have if they'd let me.  Cut my teeth on the M-14.  Now there was a real rifle!  Wish I could have had one in Iraq to take care of our drive-by shooter.  Never have much cared for its replacement though.  I suppose there are those among our ranks who qualified with the M-1, which makes a me a boot compared to them.

Happy Birthday to all Marines in the GAF!

And a salute to all veterans, of whatever service, on our special day tomorrow.  YOU are the one who make our nation great.

Dr. Bob

US Scout,

I shot a lot of high power matches with an M1 before the DCM began supplying M14's to state associations.  Funiest M1 memory is one of our team members on the Missouri State Rifle Assoc. team at Camp Perry was when a guy was shooting offhand and slid a round into the chamber and was watching for the score from the pits and didn't hold the operating rod when he released the bolt.  Glad it wasn't me! ;D ;D

Was great to "break starch" but I was disapointed that the baseball cap had replaced the flat top "Ridgeway" cap.

I have to agree with you that the M14 was the finest rifle that was ever issued to the US fighting man!!
