What kind of spur straps are these?

I like the look of them with no buckles and was wondering if they were called by a certain name when I go to the saddle shop.

They are called dove wings and several leather crafters who post here make them...

Hi,

Knowing that you do your own leather, Will Ghormely has patterns for these type of spurs ... the only caveat with these types of spur straps is that they can loosen up when they are worn ... mine are now size 12s instead of 11s  ... oops
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

No sir I don't think I'm intermediate to advanced leathermaker, though these might be a good test run  ;D

You said yours loosened up, ever thought maybe wetting them a little and let the leather dry and shrink? I know my mother has to do that to get better fitting work gloves  ;)

Russ McCrae,

Now why didn't I think of that? They are off the spurs and could easily be whetted ... Thanks!

The problem with wetting is that it tends to not be repeatable to many times.  Another idea might be to arrange for the adjustment slots to fall where you can get the extra inch there as they stretch.

Well a pard talked me into making my own, I'm pretty happy with what I got.

Roughed out right now, bout to roll and wax the edge and maybe look at dark brown stains and studs around the border.

I use the dovewings to, like the model. Used W.Ghormleys pattern.

Slowhand Bob et al,

I am a great fan of Will Ghormely's patterns ... I used his Johnny Ringo rig for some Schofield dropped holsters ...then had some leather left over and made Cowboy Cuffs and Strapless Spur Straps:

Done with them for now, I might darken them with one more coat of olive oil or natural aging
