OK, a question on Custer

Should not cause any stir, it don't matter if you love him, hate him or don't care.

A long story for a campfire night at the 2013 Muster up to Jerry's, but if someone knows it would save me what could be a lot of digging for a minor point.

If I remember right, didn't Custer visit the Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia before heading back west in 1876?

The time has passed so quick, the years all run together now.

St. George

Yes.

He did so after testifying before the Banning Committee - then visited the Exposition and followed by going to New York to meet with his publishers.

Thanks, I swore he had, but I still haven't unpacked all my books.

OK, this went better than I thought, it's pretty well know I am working on a book on 19th Century cooking, but it will not be just another cook book, but a reference book with all the information I've dug up over the years, it will include some of my favorite camp recipes.

I needed a break from the writing of the rough draft today so I played a bit with the title page.  I am going to self publish and for now I just put my Email name in there and the hopefully spring 2015 date.

I wanted a title page like a lot of those 19th century books. The picture is from 1904 by Solomon Butcher in Overton Nebraska and will require permission from the Nebraska State Historical Society to use, but they have been granting that for the Butcher Collection since around WWI so that shouldn't be a problem.

The sub-title may be a bit confusing with out being explained, the reason for the Custer question.

So since Lieutenant Colonel (Brevet Major General) George Armstrong Custer visited the Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia before heading back west in late spring of 1876. Heinz Ketchup was one of the displays at the Expo. So since he was some what of a gourmet, did he take some bottles of Heinz ketchup with him?   Yes a bit warped, but I like it.

The font I used on it is Copper Plate Gothic, it didn't come out till 1901 so I may do some rethinking, but for now I have a rough pattern.

I was doing some cooking and the wife was home also so it was hard to really concentrate on things as well as when it's just me and the dog at home.

I thought that store was in Broken Bow? Regardless, you should use the enhanced version where you can see the cans on the shelves inside.

No it's in Overton, the problem is when you enhance it to see the stuff inside, the outside loses a lot.

This one uses a store taken in 1903 in Sartoria on the south Loup in Buffalo County.

Those are the 3 best grocery stores in the collection.

Please do keep us posted. Since my wife retired her hobby has been cooking. She has always been a good cook but now she likes to experiment and is always trying out new recipes. She is Italian and of course specializes in Italian Cusine.

It would be fun to have her try some of your Camp Fire recipes.
