This is a question I have been pondering, Has anyone out there gone completely old school with thier gun collection? I mean, lets say pre- 1900 style arms. I ask because its been about 3 months now since I have really gone to the old school firearms, and I have found that I have not even pulled a modern style gun out in all that time. Thanks for the responses.

'Bout the same with me, except that I have a few years jump on you.  One exception, I am in the process of restoring a ROSS Mk III to military trim, bayonet included.

acctually yeah..... Kinda sorta

Started SASS with Rugers, Marlin & Fox (later Stoeger) circa 1989-90
Played that a few years.... I sorta kept it way seprate of my CW Reenacting ( Cap & ball Colts & Henry or Sharps )
Burned out on SASS about 95 or so... stay the course over 30 years reenacting though.

Kinda got the bug again in 99-2000 tried SASS ....To much had changed  :-\

So I sought out NCOWS, there I could shoot, C&B or Conversions , Henry & a 73 , and Hammered Double.
Not that I could not in SASS, but got the LOOK and the complaints of the Smoke ! yada yada

The Rugers are long gone as is the Marlin 1994 and the Stoeger....
As is the 4 gun ramuda classes for me ...I like a Conversion & a Henry or 73 in Working Cowboy or the Conversion & Mulley in Sodbuster.

Aside from a S&W Mod 36... CCW I rarely shoot (just carry) well I shoot some, it to stay sharp.
Everthing I have anymore, are 19th. Century designs.
Flinters , Sharps, Henry's (3) , 73, several conversions & C&B 'ers and one 73 Colt

Ruger Mini 14 -in 223 , Ruger 10/22 , S&W Mod 59- 9mm DA gone , a coupla Marlin Glenfields 22 auto loaders & Ruger Mk 1 Target All gone....
Saddly also gone is my 1911 in moment of greed  :-\, even my 03 Springfield ( both of these were new old stock parts kit bash guns though )

I own a couple of double action revolvers and a couple of 1911s.  Other than that, all are SAAs, lever action rifles and break-open shotguns.  Oh, and one crossbow.   8)

I have a couple of LC Smiths from the 1920's that I shoot, but their design did not change much after 1899.  Engraving patterns is about all.  I do have a couple of concealed carry weapons that are new, a J-frame Smith and a Colt Commander.  Other than those 2 I have not shot any modern weapons since about 1978.  (that is sort of a lie as I drug an M16 half way around the world over a 40 yr period).  Spent many years shooting and hunting with a flinter.  Now shoot a lot of NCOWS.

Tascosa, I have 2 Parkers that I inherited from my Granddad, they were made after 1900, but like you said, theyre a pre 1900 design. I ordered a Shiloh sharps, Got a little wait for it. But 2 of my long range rifles left to finance it. Its been a long time since I was truly excitied about a new gun. Forgot what it was like.

I know what you mean about the excitement of waiting for a Shiloh. To give me something to look forward to during cancer treatment two years ago, I ordered a Shiloh 50-70 carbine to go along with my Military Rifle in the same calibre. That was my fifth Shiloh, but the first one I ordered direct. I was not disappointed.
It's my 'go to' hunting rifle and I hope to drop a moose with it this month. I was packing it 2 days ago when I chanced upon two black bears running together - one brown phase. They were at 125+ yds, which I felt was a tad far for the carbine. I have taken two 400+ lb black bears with the rifle version, the longer barrel giving me more confidence in a good 'put down'  hit.

Look elsewhere on this board for what sort of accuracy the carbine is capable of.

I make my own longbows. Cut the tree, season the log. split out the stave, make the bow, make the string, make the arrows and have shor deer with them. Now, thats my defination of "Old School". When it comes to guns I like them all. I have not gone completely old school as my interest is in military forearms. I have five Polish Mausers, four Radom Pistols, A french Birthier, a 1917 Enfield, M1 carbine, M1 rifle Pre Victory Mosel S&W, Walther P38 (AC 44). anpng other assorted WW1 and WW2 items.
