Guess I should have done a little more homework before my last post. If I am correct the "crown" is the end of the barrel where the rifling meets the end. Hope I'm right, just never had that many experiences with rifles to understand some of the termanology that is refrenced on this site.  Thanks again,

Reading som extracts from the Spencer 1866 catolog,there is a refrence from Col.T.E. Chickering,$1st Mass Regiment,Jan.13,1863 were he refers to testing a Spencer carbine,and again  from Bri.Gen.J.T. Copeland,March 4th,1863 were he endorses the Spencer Rifle and Carbine.The Chickering refrence may be confusing because booth the Laancaster(sapers &miners)carbine and the Enfield Sargents carbine booth had barrels of 31 1/2 and 33 inches.The Copeland refrence leaves no dought as he mentions booth rifle and carbine.Your carbine serial number puts it in this time period of posible use

The one I have is copy of the original Spencer catologe sold by S&S,it is in black and white and cost $5.The cover is very diffrent than the one you posted a link to so I do not know weather the contents are the same
