On the 58 Remington, do you remove the nipples every time you clean? I am planning to purchase this pistol and out of the box, I intend to remove the nipples and coat the threads with anti - seize. Also, can anyone recommend a good nipple wrench? I have heard there are some pretty lousy ones out there.
My monikor comes from my family's former ranch Santa Cruz Farms located outside Eloy, Arizona. The Santa Cruz river runs through the land.

Universal nipple wrench from The Possibles shop is the best I've ever used.  It may be a little high; but it will never break and works on rifles, pistols, and revolvers

I remove the nipples after every match/shooting session, and use Balistol as an antiseize (as well as cleaner, lube and protectant on my BP ad smkeless guns).

I totally take the whole pistol apart and clean every time I shoot.  That may be extreme, but I have never had one mess up when shooting.  (except for 1 time on a 51 navy, that was bad nipples, replaced and now flawless).  I have picked up a few used pistols and avoided others.  The ones avoided were bad nipples/cylinder.   The corrosion on one was so bad, I did not see it could be salvaged.    also have several of those universal wrenches.  They are da bomb.

I made my own from an old Craftsman socket and a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel. Works very well. I don't think I'll be beaking this one any time soon.

This topic of whether to remove nipples when cleaning has appeared off and on on this forum(CAS). I've always stated and stand by removing them and cleaning them and the recesses of the cylinder they screw into everytime you clean the rest of the gun. It's a 'pain in the rear' to do (the part of shooting/cleaning c&b's I hate and detest the most), but a nessary procedure to prevent rust, residue build up, and have the most reliaibility when shooting. I once upon a time tried not removing the nipples in my first c&b revolver, but after a time noticed the build up of residue and a small area of rust in the recesses of the cylinder that the nipples reside in, no matter how diligent I was in cleaning without removal. Even using some form of lube on the threads, I found that there was always had to be nipples that were tough to remove. The residue that builds up in the cylinder recesses and nipples is tough enough to remove when you remove the nipples, much more when ya leave them in and it seems you never get all of it with the nipples in the way.

I look at it this way--even if you would take a bath everyday, but leave your feet hanging out of the tub, never really washing them, in time you and others will notice the difference between bathing this way or washing yer hooves with the rest of yer body!!! ;D :o ??? ::) ;D
