I posted this in The Historical Society but thought I'd try it here:

Custer County Nebraska Fair, 1903, gas engine powered machinery display.

We have the engine, the water pump, the lathe, the small grain thresher, but does anyone know what this is?

Sorry, I am looking for a straight answer, guesses don't help, it's been guessed about for years, now I want to know exactly what it is.

Looks to be a wood shredder for packaging material, what is that ball of stuff down by the kids feet..Rafia maker? Or it bales up the scraps from the lathe..

Looks more like a punch press, the box on it is the monkey wrench in the works.  No way would anything feed into it our out of it.

Mystery is solved, it's a cream separator not fully put together and the stuff is packing material for the parts stored in the tank.

We still had home made butter at my Grandparents when I was a kid until they finally quit milking. We would separate the cream from the milk and made the butter in hand crank Dazey butter churns. I still have one of the churns and my brother has the other. There are still some butter molds around collecting dust too. I guess my generation is the last to see those times and consider myself one of the lucky ones to have experienced it.

I often get fresh homemade butter at some of the events I go to.  Some fresh hot home made bread as a trade will get it. ;D

But I was at a antique farm machinery show one time and found out I had forgot the coal oil for the lanterns.  I just wrapped some fresh bread in a dish towel, grabbed the lanterns and went and found a guy with an Oil Pull Rumely, he was happy to fill my lanterns in trade.
