About time!

When I arrived in Iraq in 2003 and reported to the armory to draw my weapon, I asked if I could draw a 1911 but was told it was for Special Ops only.

I was shooting my 1911 at the range today.  Several other shooters came over to watch.  One remarked it was loud, another said it was expensive to shoot - to which I replied "Yeah, .45 is more expensive than 9mm, but I only need one round to finish the job."

Yeah, a step backwards in the right direction ....

But someone on another forum posted pics of the USMC 'rail gun' with a cracked slide that developed after 12,000 rds. They're also paying one hell of a price for not many pistols. Several pistols were reported to have developed te cracks in the area of the rear slide serrations.

I remember when the Beretta won out over all competitors. The US makers cried 'foul' and the tests were rerun. The Beretta won again.
Reminiscent of the government trials where the 1911 won out over the P-08 and the Savage .45s. Oh well, at least that created some highly prized collector's items.

THe full contract will extend to 12,000 pistols, which comes out around 1800 or so each.  Not so bad.

I worked with the M-9 for several years.  Accurate, easy to shoot.  And I would not bet my life on it.  In the Arab pennensula someone turned in an M-9 with a broken lock block on a daily basis. Could not even use it as a single shot.  We hated the things.  I had a 1991a1 smuggled over, worked great.  The Marines stole every one of the USNs 1911s during the first gulf war, and used the heck out of the things. (The USN stole 'em from the Army)  All dating from 1945 or earlier.

Everyone who could get one, carried 1911s.  They finaly just recognized what the troops in the field had allready implemented.
