Hey all,

I bought a new holster for my Uberti 5.5" Cattleman. It fits fine, but getting it in is like stuffing 10lbs of grain into a 2lb bag. What are your suggestions for conditioning it? Also the tie-downs are stiff and well as the hammer thong. Thx, a head of time.

P.S. the holster is the Triple K #114 5.5" Cheyenne model (preformed)

Nothing breaks 'em in like usage.  You didn't mention the maker but you might want to contact them and explain the problem.  They might suggest something to "soften" it up.  I personally wouldn't recomend anything because it seems some folks say use this oil or that cream and I've read where some leather makers recomend you don't use anything on the leather.   Good luck with it.   ;)

LazyK, If it was preformed for your gun model it should fit without that much trouble. You can contact Triple K on the web and mention your problem. Perhaps the wrong holster was sent. Usage will help somewhat, but it should stretch only so much without a retention problem. If its an unlined holster it will stretch faster with use.

Howdy,  we shoulda talked early on.  We could have swapped out.  That is what I bought yours to replace.  Anyway, try wrapping your gun in saran wrap then place it in a sock.  Wet the inner holster with water and then seat the plastic/sock covered weapon in it until holster is dry.  The thickness of the sock should depend on how tight the holster is to start.  This should give you the expansion you need.  Since it is a formed holster. Try not to bunch up material in a manner that would alter the form.

You can use this same practice to form an unformed holster.  Just wet the holster well insert wrapped weapon and then form the holster with the back side of a teaspoon by pressing on the outside until shape is obtained.

BTW funds should have arrived today.

Thank's all. The holster is the right one, it's just new and stiff. The 4.5/8" (same style and company), I sold Slim is more supple.  works fine. I think use will help and I've done the water thing also so will try. Slim, I expect your check will be here monday; no real rush for me. I put your holster in the Triple K bag that came from Cabella's today so your's will go out in the same box. Have a great day all.

Thanks LKPjay

More fun way is to put it on, put the gun in it and throw a good western on the TV.  Usually by the end of the movie things are fitting just fine.  Just make sure it's empty though ;D

Hey all,

I re-curved the holster (It had been flattened during storage I assume). I also did Slim's trick. Now it draws sweet. Of course my quick draw leaves much to be desired!

Funny thing about a fast draw, if ya try to be fast ya ain't.  If ya try to be smooth ya eventually get fast.  But a slow hit beats a fast miss any day.

I agree with Slim Silver. The fastest miss never walked away from a gun fight!
