Hi,
Just joined the forum, having just bought a Uberti 1876 in 45-60.  I was wondering if one of you knowledgeable folks could tell me:  is 350 grains cast bullet to much for the 45-60?  I want to reload a few for target shooting only, but not if I'm going to run the risk of damaging the firearm.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have found the 405gr bullet to be the most accurate in my gun. I use 35gr Varget with this bullet.

If you load prudently the issue will not be "damaging the gun".  Bullet length and rifling twist will usually determine what bullet weight will be more accurate.  As well, If the bullet is too long it will take up a lot more of the powder room.

Howdy Doketx,

I have load 45-60 with bullets up to 405 grn with no problems.  You should have no problems with a 350 grn bullet.

I've used bullets weighing from 300 grains to 405 grains with very good accuracy out of my Chappy .45-60.

With its 1 in 22 inch twist the rifle will stbalize the 405 grainer with no problem.  I reduce the powder charge from 60 grains of 2Fg Goex or its equivilant volume of Pinacle to 55 grains to reduce the recoil a bit.  This gives you almost the same velocity and performance as the US Army's .45-55-405 carbine load for the Trapdoor Springfield Carbine.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.
