I helped do a reenactment of the shootout at O.K. corral yesterday at Wyatt Earp's birthplace in Monmouth Il. The property is owned by an older couple from Arizona whose health is failing them, they have tried to GIVE the property to the city to keep it open but it sounds like the city doesn't want it, (I think every gov't agency in the state of Il. is broke). The property needs some upkeep and
there is no money for it. In the large picture maybe this piece of Americana isn't important but to me it seems sad to see something
like this to be lost.

I dont know how large a city Monmouth, Il is, but most towns have a historical society of some kind.  Most HS are private rather than state funded.  Those folks ought to try to get in contact.  May be worth a try.

When a historical figure spends his life and career in other locations - a 'birthplace' is of little interest to most, and featuring it as a place of interest is stretching it for some towns.

Once these same towns realize the cost of upkeep and advertising on their city budget - they generally lose interest.
