What a fun way to run your own speakeasy or "likker" operation.  A table top still.

Those look real nice.  As a chemist I appreciate a good distillation apparatus.   Revenuers and ATF types might not appreciate them.  Many years ago, in college, we were tasked with cleaning the attic of the chemistry building.  We ran into a big container of these.   As we pulled the boxes out, we all had visions of Thunder Road/Copperhead Road playing out when the professors saw are find.  We spent the next few hours cleaning off hoses and grime but leaving the patina to make an historical display.   Undaunted, we "obtained" a new glass apparatus and decided to make some homemade rum.  We lived next to a cop and he was over and pointed out that having lab equipment in your house constitued a felony (dang meth heads).  Since he was a friend, he said he would let it slide this time and told us it should find its way back to wence it came.

::) ??? How is a small still producing limited amounts for personal use different from making a little homemade wine or beer?  ???

Those stills are awesome, and great display craftsmanship. In many countries it's not an issue of legality. I guess in 1978 when laws were lifted for homebrewing, there was some hope for the legalization of home distillation. I don't think that it's anything other than a revenue issue guised in the terms of 'safety', but if you look at how much money it takes to start a distillery legally, it's extremely expensive. Hopefully someday!

Beer and wine are fermented, spirits are distilled. That's how the Feds see it.

I've read that it can lead up to a $10k fine and up to 10 years in jail as well, felonies, not something to mess with apparently!
