'97 problem

My wife's '97 has thrown a shoe ..... When she inserts a cartridge, sometimes the round sticks and she can't insert a round behind it.

I've had it apart, suspecting that there might be a burr at the mouth of the mag tube, but no, it's smooth. I've loaded and worked dummy rounds through it until my thumb is sore, and I occasionally have the same problem.

What should I be looking for?

Spring binding further up the mag tube and or the follower "cocking" in the mag tube.

Thanks, Coffinmaker!

I'll check it out. I've pretty well eliminated all else.

Well, thinkin' it over, the problem HAD to be with the mag tube. I stripped the gun again and found a slight dent in the mag tube about 8" from the threaded end, just enough to cause a bind with the spring, I guess.

I know how to remove it, but would rather have a 'smith do it. So, I swapped mag tubes with my '97 and it wouldn't fit! I've had it with this saga for a bit, but I sure am gettin' good at tearin' down '97s .....

No wonder I like my original Ithaca SxS so much - it just goes 'Bang!" with no problems.

Brownells offers a device you drive thru the mag tube to remove dents.

Thanks, rooster..  sounds like a gunsmith tool, which is why my wife's gun will be headed for a shop. I can't see buying a tool I hope never to use again.

the cost for one time use is not justifiable for me.
