I used to cross the Medicine Line to take in CAS events at Cody, Wyoming and Couer d'Alene, Idaho. Always had a great time.
It was the time of one gun, (usually a calibre starting with the number '4') and people prided themselves on 'real' shooting loads.

I used to enjoy the company of a pack of Montanans who shot cap & ball - only. They regarded themselves as good ol' southern sympathizer red necks and didn't care what the rest of the herd was doing. They only shot against and with each other. Because their guns were always breaking down under the pounding, they always had one and a spare, cannibalizing parts to keep one going. I saw them rebuild a gun between stages in just a few minutes.

After a match at Cody, they invited me and the lady with me to attend a shoot at their range facility; the High Ore Shooting Society (H.O.S.S.), located in mining country twixt Butte and Helena.
During a break while the stats were being ground out with a hand calculator, one good ol' boy put out some snoose cans packed with some old explosive that was gettin' past it's prime. We were invited to have at 'er with rifle and pistol and the noise was incredible, something like the finales of a "Sons of Guns" episode.

By any chance, are any of the subscribers on this forum from that group?
