A few years back, I sold my Walker to a pal who wanted to match it with another he had for CAS. I've always regretted parting with it as it's the 'Dirty Harry' gun of Cowboy guns. I only shot it occasionally, but still ....

Now another buddy is willing to part with his low round count cased Walker & accessories. I'm torn. We have an annual cap & ball only shoot and it would go good with my 2nd gen Colt 3rd Model Dragoon - Papa Bear and Momma Bear.

I'm trying to decide if this is something I 'need' or just 'want' ..... whaddya think?

I think it's more of a want than a need but they are impressive. When I shoot mine in matches I feel that I am providing "entertainment" for the posse and other observers. Mine are "for occasional use only" rather than regular use.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Every cap&ball aficionado needs a Walker. Want and need are one and the same aren't they?  ;)

You guys are aiding and abetting an addiction, you know that ..... ;<)

Yeah, the Walker is a real handful and always a crowd pleaser. I used to host period weapons seminars for my re-enactment group and the men always gravitated to the Walker against advice to the contrary. They also wanted it loaded to the max with 60 grs.

After the 3rd shot, they had developed a world class recoil anticipation (aka as a 'flinch'), missing the generous steel target 15 yards away. They only shot it dry 'cause the ladies were watching.

The ladies genteely shot the '51 Navy, producing nice, tight clusters with a 21 gr load.

There are many guns with more recoil than the Walker (my S&W M29 4" for one), but few with the same bulk and 'Boom!'  = muzzle blast too intimidating for some.

Same can be said for the Dragoon models as well.

not a "want", a "need"... don't let some woman tell you otherwise!

Noz

Very simple.

NEED

One of our shooters,"Chaos Jumbles" shoots the combination you are speaking of at all of our matches.

Dragoon on the left, Walker on the right. Henry and an outside hammer 12.

The photo is a bit small to tell, but is the guy in Noz' avatar holding his pants up with both hands? Must be wearing a pair of Walkers or Dragoons.  ;D
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

I'm thinkin' on it ... I'm thinkin' on it .... Trouble is, the guy wants one of my pet .308s for it.

Trailrider - if I get the Walker, that'll be me fer shure! My 138 lbs and small waist may necessitate wearing leather suspenders to hold up my gun belt. There are disadvantages to not needing a mirror to see if your boots are on the right feet ... ;>)

The guy that bought mine was complaining about the weight walking from stage to stage at our annual cap & ball shoot. The 'horse pistols' are not the choice of Drug Store Cowboys, but dyed-in-the-wool "Gus" types.
