Anybody wear a kevlar glove on their non knife hand? I do now after almost losing the end of my left index finger last weekend. Cuttin a piece for some saddle bags and the knife came off the leather and across my finger. Happily I might say I didn't get one drop of blood on the leather either. :-\

That's rough, pard. Bloodletting is a barber's duty, not a leather worker's. Good thing it wasn't worse. Nice save on the leather.

I've started to, I have to at work, so it kinda followed me home...

I actually gave up on the head style knives after several serious cuts over the years.  Its not so much that one can not find protective gloves but rather that I always seem to mar the leather to much even when using my naked hands.  The last time I skived a chunk of finger I was amazed that with care I was able to save it and actually little to no scarring but that was a last call, the utility knives came back out of the drawers and the round knives just get small speciality jobs now.

For an alternative, this is what I use. It's made out of an old power saw blade. Like any knife, you can still cut yourself but not anything like a good round knife can do. This is good for 95% of the cuts I make with leather. It looks like the blade has been heat blued, but that's just the lighting. It still has the original temper. Glue a couple layers of leather or shoe sole on each side.

Kevlar, no, but i do wear a chain mail glove on my left hand when cutting just about anything, meat, leather, whatever. The exception is when I am cutting wood using my table saw or my radial arm saw. Then I wear it on my right hand.
I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.
