Pancho Peacemaker

Only three Westerns have won the Oscar for best picture:  Cimarron,  Dances With Wolves, and Unforgiven.

I'm guessing that is the set for Unforgiven.

OK ...sorry  Pancho  wrong direction...

here it is .....

Look at the 12 Oclock or just left...that is "TARA"  "Gone With The Wind"
the Main street was  David O Selznick's Atlanta

Want more ...

the Main Street is also "Mayberry"  note:  Sheriff Andy Taylor's Court House with Floyd Barber Shop just next door...

it was also the Star Trek set for "City on the edge of Tomorrow"  the one where Kirk falls in love with Joan Collins in the past (circa 1930) it was also used in another episode, were the Starship Crew battles a super computer name "Landru"
and 2 others...

It was Virginia City on Bonanza ... do you remember....  US Marshal  & Yancy Derringer ?

Up the street ...see the two story building on the corner about center (next to the 4 story walkup ) ?
The Duke's location in " his last film   "the Shootist "

all the history and sadly gone now.... bulldozed in 1976 it is now a large Industrial complex  :(

Cutter Carl

It was the Selnick Studio then RKO, DesiLu and finally Great Western/Paramont Studio in Culver City.  I think I got all the owners without missing any. :)

A few more bits of trivia:

It was also the set of Hogan Heros - Stalag 13,  Camp Henderson in Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.

Also used for outsode scenes in Batman and Green hornet series.

Lots of neat things went on there.  it is a real shame it is gone.  A big chunk of Hollywood history lost forever.

Cash Creek,

I have a kind of Love/Hate feelings about Kevin Cosner .... Love and respect for what he has done and portrayed in such movies as Dances With Wolves, The Postman and his time in the Lonesome Dove series ...

As a kid I saw second hand the ravages of WW! in Alsace Lorraine (we were stationed near Verdun and St Mihiel) ... I learned at a very early age that soldiers don't get up to play the game over ....

So I grok what they were trying to say about the Civil War in the early scenes ... and the whole film was a flowing discussion of just who and what was cruel and unkind and barbaric ....

But then there is Mr Costner's outright anti-gun sentiment ....

So I salute what Mr Costner has done with his life even as I vilify some of his sentiments ....

Now I will get off my soapbox and thank you for those clips ... I don't think I will ever watch 'Dances with Wolves' again in the same way ....
