on the trip to Silverton, they had to keep stopping due to a brake problem, and they were really apologitic, and all I could say...was hey I am on a steam train....what was the problem...

My comments would rather be "As long as we are 'stopping' and not 'on a runaway' due to the brake problem is just fine by me."

This is most excellent to see things like this still in operation.  I've been wanting to do a train trip somewhere and moves it up the "to-do list."

We've got a fine one up here in Alberta - excursions run about 5 1/2 hours -

Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Scout, Rocky Mountain Rangers, North West Canada, 1885
Major John M. Robson, Royal Scots of Canada, 1883-1901
Sgt. John Robson, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 1885
Bvt. Col, Commanding International Dept. and Div.  of Canada, Grand Army of the Frontier

Thanks for those great pics Red Cent and the vid Rattlesnake Jack!   8)
Odd that the caboose was between the coal car and the passenger cars.  Supposed to be at the end of the train...  Ain't it?   ???

I think that they keep the caboose hooked to the engine because they never know how many people will show up for one of their excursions ......   That way, they can add or remove passenger cars fairly quickly, without having to unhook (and re-hook) the caboose ....

On some of the excursions I have been on, they had a car right behind the engine reserved for people who wanted to record the sound of the engine.

Take this ride a few times each year.  What upsets me the most is the girls are never there.   ;D
