howdy yall.
a while back someone posted a picture of a original buffalo hunters cartridge belt and i felt inspired to re-create it.
i copied it as best as i could from the picture just never did get around making the suspenders. belt made to fit the 44-2 1/4 sbn(44-77).
pictured is my tried and true old 3rd generation navy colt and my c.sharps rifle. the beaded knife sheath is brain tan dyed with orchard eath paint and lined with raw hide was made by my swedish brother red thunder. i made meat the first time i took this rifle and belt out. oh yeah they're keepers

Looks great! I assume its constructed similar to a money belt? What thickness leather did you use? I may have to rig one up when I can afford to start building a buffalo hunter persona.

That's a very nice belt. Looks good and appropriate.

Thanks for sharing that pic, Sir Charles. What a fascinating collection of history. What is the box between the melting pot and the powder horn?

That's the sharpening stone in a box and the horn is not a powder horn but rather a vinegar (or water) horn for keeping the stone clean.

Nicely done job Billy!

Hi,

I really like the pouch that is on the left side ... since copying is touted as being the most sincere form of flattery, do you mind if I added a similar pouch to the one that I am making?

wow thanks,
sir charles that is the picture i copied mine from.
darby i used some kind of mystery leather that i scrounged up from somewhere but i believe it is 2-3 oz leather. i folded the belt in half , put a cartridge inside and made a stitch on each side of the cartridge. after the belt was finished i had the after thought of sewing a pocket with a flap and a sam brown stud to put my drivers license and hunting and trapping license in so i aint gotta carry my wallet while i'm hunting and running traps.

wwe feel free to copy. i come here for inspriration and if my work inspires some one then thats just all the better ;D

thanks again
