Shooting an antique Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 single Action. This is a classic which some say was the best single action revolver of the nineteenth century.

Nice video. Nice to see the New Model #3 highlighted.

I am extremely lucky to own a New Model Number Three. I walked into a local gunshop one day and there it was. I came back the next day and bought it. It cost a lot of money, but I knew I would kick myself forever if I did not buy it. Mine is also chambered for 44 Russian. The previous owner had lettered it, it was made in 1882, then sent back to S&W and completely refinished in 1965. It looks like it just came off the assembly line.

Mike Venturino says all of the Number Threes with their tiny sights tend to shoot high, and mine is no different. It shoots high. I noticed you had a couple of misses. Where were you hitting on the target? I'll bet you were hitting high. Yes, the New Model Number Three was very popular with late 19th Century target shooters. I'm sure you are aware they came with target sights, but I still marvel at how anybody could see those tiny sights well enough to shoot them so well.

I find the upcurved hammer spur is a little bit difficult for me to reach. I noticed you were doing a fair amount of shifting of your grip between shots. Did you have to do that to reach the hammer?

I know you said they are not for CAS, but I do bring mine along and shoot it at a match every once in a while. Black Powder only of course.

That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
