Four Eyes Henry

Hello to all,

My sherriff's model Ruger Vaquero starts to over rotate again, it happened before and then I put in a new cylinder latch.
But now it's doing it again and by playing around with a little beeswax, the frame, the cylinder and the latch I found that the latch doesn't fill the groove. I know that power Custom sells a oversize cylinder latch, so I'd like to know if someone has worked with that or can help me in another way.

Thanks

Sounds like fitting a cylinder bolt is a little beyond your capabilities (just an assumption). If in doubt, bring it to someone who knows what they are doing in this area of pistolsmithing.

Ruger smiths are a bit rare overhere.
I know a thing or two and asked if someone has some experience with the Power Custom part or has another idea.
Overrotating doesn't happen only to me, I guess.
So your answer is not really helping me.

Howdy Four Eyes,
I kinda had a similar problem with my Ruger old Army's and Kirst cartridge converter.   I know, completely different guns but the innards are similar.

I took it to my smith here in Houston, Allan Horton.

Heres what he did.  He noticed the cuts on the cylinder were not wide or deep enough for the cylinder latch.  He did a little wideing of the slots plus honed the sides of the latch to make sure they would fit.  He did notice a burr on the latch.   He replaced the latch spring and plunger as the plunger was cracked, plus he did a little work on the spin paw.  Just a slight bit of honing on the contact surfaces. Works great now.
I don't have any experience with the Power Custom Latch but do with theur half cock hammer, trigger, etc.   I had no problems exchanging  any of the parts on my OM vaqueros as the parts I got were pretty much drop in.
Hope that helps

I had one doing that, it over rotated past the same chamber every time unless I cocked it really slow.  After a new spring and bolt didn't fix it, I sent it to Ruger.  They fitted a new cylinder.  I know this isn't much help.

Next saturday there is a match, so here is what I've done.

I welded the old one (I have a new one too) and recontoured it. It is higher now so it will fill the slot better.
(but still wants to know if someone has experience with the Power Custom part)
