For the past few years, our club has offered a 'Ladies Day' at which guns and ammunition are provided by all disciplines for basic introduction to any and all shooting sports.
For a $25 fee, they get to try their hands at trap, handgun, CAS, BP and bench events. One on one supervision is provided by knowledgeable shooters, many of them CORE of FASC instructors. Lunch is included.

It has turned out to be one of our most successful and popular programs, expanding into three occasions with 20 women per class.
Demand had necessitated that we offer a fourth occasion and increase the number of slots to 30; divided into two groups.

This weekend the club has it's annual mall display and the response from the public has been gratifying, gaining us many new members, and many applicants for the Ladies Day. For the past couple of years, our membership has been at an all time high.

At a time when guns and shooting are not thought to be PC, this is remarkable. We must be doing something right! The fact that this would irritate the hell out of Wendy Cukier and her 'Coalition For Gun Control' makes it all the sweeter.

PJ;  It helps that you are located in Gold Rush country, and in the midst of a ranching area.  I lived Up North for several years and most folks had some exposure to hunting and shooting.  One of your Provincial Court  Judges is a Chilcotin ranch girl from a family that arrived with the gold rush.  She attended a veterinary medicine for ranchers clinic once where she exchanged weather stories with the manager of the King Ranch.

On the other hand, try talking about guns in "Toronto The Good"!!

I applaud your club effort, and will pass your post on to our club.

You're right Sir Chuck - location has a lot to do with it.

You would be hard pressed to find a household in the Caribioo that doesn't have a few guns - .22 rifle, shotgun and some centre fire rifle for deer, bear and moose.
My school marm wife tells me that some of her students will announce that they won't be present for a few days as they are going on a family hunt! She has asked how many have guns at home and there was hardly a hand not raised.
