Is a Uberti Hombre a good gun? I found where I can get one for 250. I plan on getting into CAS and wondered if this is a good gun to start or should I go with a pistolero or model p or something else. Thanks

You're getting a lot of looks but no so many replies.  I don't have any experience with the hombre and I'm guessing that others must not have either or someone would have spoke up.  Don't give up though...keep checking back. ;D

I had never heard of that particular model.  This is off of a web search for you.

Of course, the Matte blue finish would not be NCOWS legal.  I am not sure about SASS requirements.

Cherokee Reb

FWIW, I picked one of these up and invested $10 in a bottle of blue remove. The fnish ended up looking like one of the "Original Finish" guns being sold at a premium. I refinished the stocks with oil and shot it at several SASS and NCOWS events with no problem.

All the "hombre" is, is a Uberti cattleman with a matte finish and brass backstrap/triggerguard.

A lady at our club shoots them, she's had no trouble with them at all and no one's ever said anything about them. I asked her about them yesterday at our club shoot, she said her husband doesn't like her shooting them but he said that's just because he originally bought them to replace his old guns and she appropriated them.

A then new shooter in my posse on budget bought a pair @ $250 each Gun Trader online .
They have matte finish as mentioned...otherwise they perform well and were pretty good NIB.
For the money spent he did quite well for himself.

The finish is like the USFA Rodeo, As Reb said they can be made to look like the aged finish Cimarron and USFA charges a premium for.

Years ago Uberti called these Millenium Finish..a pard bought two of them from Cabella's in 45 colt he's used them for years
in both WAS & Mounted ....

I am heading to the local Gun Emporium in an hour to pick two of those "Hombre's" up.  I have used one as a loaner with the local "Cowboy Fast Draw" club a couple times.  Money well spent.

Like Cherokee Reb, I intend to remove the blue, slap on a couple of rub areas to show wear and then it will look like the expensive antiqued model of Uberti Cattleman.

Skip the $10 blue remover, and use white vinegar

The Uberti Cattleman Hombre seems to be a well made Revolver.

I purchased two of them from the dealer on Gunbroker for $250.00 each.

I stripped one, polished it then added Faux Ivory Grips. Shoots and handles well, the other I just added Faux Ivory Grips.

They are both dependale revolvers but like all Ubertis can stand a little tuning for great performance.

See my Post and Photo of the polished Hombre on Gunsmithing Forum.

Warbucks, seen your post awhile back, but am heading over to check it out again.

Those Hombre's from Tanner were just too good of a deal to pass up.  If he still has any in a couple months, I might even have to get another 1 or 2 so I have loaners for friends.

I think you will like them.  One nice thing about them is that they have a coil type handspring like the rugers and it is adjustable up to a point by turning the screw in the frame to apply more or less pressure.

The one thing I found out when stripping the first one is that they seem to be well made and needed fewer adjustments than my stainless Uberti Cattleman did.

I was surprised because I figured when I bought it for the $250 price it would probabley end up a parts gun or a wall hanger.

I was wrong, it stands up as good as the other Ubertis, not pretty but functional.

I have to modify what I said about the hand spring being a coil like a Ruger, I just found out that the Hombre may come with the leaf or coil spring with no way to find out until you strip it down, however it is still a bargain for the price which I see has gone up to $260 now on Gunbroker.

Uncle Hillbilly

I just bought my Hombre for $265 from Tanner and it should be here in 2 days!!!  I just saw on Gunbroker they're up to $270 now and they only have 46 of the 45LC models and 37 of the 357mags left!  If I had more money, I'd buy a second one!!!  Ray Tanner told me on the phone that once these are gone, that's it!
